A dozen sharpies enjoyed a great weekend racing at Brancaster Staithe SC in April competing for the “Lester Southerland Tiller”, a beautiful wishbone tiller which hangs permanently on the wall in the BSSC clubhouse. It was the first sharpie open meeting for over 12 months and we were lucky to see glorious sunshine and a gentle Force 2 wind which made it a perfect return to sailing.
The Northerly breeze allowed the race team to use the full extent of Brancaster harbour to best advantage.
Apart from one general recall when probably 11 of the 12 competitors were over the line the fleet was well behaved and saw friendly but competitive racing throughout the positions. The results were tight, with third place being determined by countback. For those interested, full results are on the results page of this website.
The British championship has been delayed until later in the year when travel restrictions are eased, but hopefully the Lester Southerland event was the first of many good sharpie races for the season.
